Knowing More about Christian Fiction Books
As each day passes, more and more Christian fiction books are gaining popularity. However, some people still think that the content of Christian fiction today is not the same as before. For those who are not familiar with Christian fiction though, let’s define it first.
Compared to contemporary fiction, defining Christian fiction books is a little tricky. Generally speaking, Christian fiction is any writing that incorporates a Christian theme or viewpoint and beliefs in its storyline.
These kinds of books helps its readers get familiar with the Christian fair, sometimes even authors use it to examine their own beliefs; tackling philosophical, moral, and ethical questions and hoping to get some insight from it.
For example, C.S. Lewis’ books were considered to be Christian fiction books because of the allegorical references made in his stories. Of course, there is the argument of whether Christian authors automatically churn out Christian writings. This depends entirely on the reader.
Even though there are plenty of critics when it comes to the content of Christian fiction books and novels, there is no denying that it serves one important and powerful purpose which is to share the Christian idealogy.
Ultimately, the foremost Christian book would have to be the Bible. For believers, it is more than just a book about stories, but it is one of the most important pieces of their belief.
The Screwtape Letters
Considered to be one of C.S. Lewis’ most well known book outside of the Narnia series; this was a huge favorite among evangelical writer’s circle. The entire book revolves around Screwtape, an administrative assistant from hell, giving advice to Wormwood, his young assistant.
The young assistant, Wormwood, is actually assigned to corrupt a young man, and thus, he is getting assistance and advice from Screwtape. The book was written by Lewis, in such a witty way which was taken from the perception of hell and devils; making this book a really good read.
It is filled with great insights into the depth and rationalizations of sin.
The Lord of the Rings
Young people who are into the Lord of the Rings generation might find it surprising that this book is classified as Christian fiction. The fact is that the author, J.R.R. Tolkien, was actually a key figure in influencing C.S. Lewis as a Christian.
Tolkien was actually a devoted believer and spent a majority of his time writing his books. One of these books of course, came to be Lord of the Rings. The story centers on the character of Frodo Baggins who receives a ring from his uncle Bilbo Baggins. This same ring is powerful enough to be able to control the world and its bearer.
A great council has come to an agreement that the ring has to be destroyed, but the only way for that to happen would be if the ring thrown in the same fire that it was from, which is located at the plains of Mordor. Even though Frodo is determined that he will not use the ring, he is weak and he fights off the urge to use the ring as it slowly affects his personality.
This story has allegories about Jesus’ and it also includes lessons about how goodness can never come from evil things.
