Have you ever heard of a praise sandwich? That is any time you “sandwich” a criticism, (I favor the word critique) in amongst two praises. For instance, in our karate studio, when “critiquing” student’s shoes we very first give the student a legitimate praise. “I’ve noticed that you happen to be operating tricky and remembering to re-chamber your kicks!” Then we give the ‘critique’, “I would like you to begin attempting to chamber for your hand approach while your kick is in the re-chamber position”. After the student attempts to enhance their technique we would then finish the “sandwich” by praising their work! “Great job, I like how you listened to my suggestion and spent time independently operating on it! Preserve up the tricky function!”.
